BookOfMatches.com is a free internet dating website which offers its users the ability to communicate in chat rooms or through private messages, so what could be so wrong? Well it’s not that this site is bad, it’s offering a free service in an overprescribed market, but its lack of organisation means that although your purse stays full your hours may slip through your fingers.

Let’s take a couple of examples: when performing a search you are able to narrow down the location of your search to within 50 miles, yet when the results appear there isn’t a seemingly-obvious system to how they have been organised. Rather than filling the page with results the site also puts them in a snake-like slither down the centre of the page, meaning you don’t have many results on each page. This unnecessarily slows down browsing through profiles. The profiles on view don’t offer much useful information either, which means you need to click on them to find out more. If you’re doing this with dozens or even hundreds of profiles then it soon becomes tiresome.

BookOfMatches isn’t much use if you’re outside of the US or Canada (unless you are looking for a partner there and don’t mind setting up a profile suggesting you live in those countries). It does service a few other limited places, but do check if your country is included in them before bothering to build a proper and complete profile. Once you’re onboard the site is fairly relaxed and you can easily contact other members using an instant messenger or email system. Chat rooms are also a great way to talk to several people at once, and then maybe filter off with those you like the most for something a bit more personal. There’s also a ratings game wherein you rate the photos of other members, which can be a fun way to pass the time and be presented with members who you might not know about yet.  

Unfortunately the layout of this site isn’t improved by the design and general appearance, which seems amateurish. There are far too many hyperlinks flying about and an unattractive colour scheme. This isn’t necessarily that important to the site’s content but it doesn’t feel like a polished service because of it.

Over all, BookOfMatches.com is a somewhat sloppy site which has a few irritating tendencies to waste your time. Its membership is variable and it is worth checking how useful it is to your location, but it’s a free site and doesn’t do a bad job of letting you communicate with members once you’ve found them.
